The CASFEM project (3D-printed Wireless Charger for Sustainable Electric Boats) aims to develop and validate a non-contact inductive charging system for electric boats. The solution will allow 48 V 200 Ah batteries to be recharged with a power of 3.3 kW and an efficiency greater than 93%, while eliminating physical connectors and cables and improving safety and reliability in marine environments.
The project is driven by a consortium made up of Magnetika, V2 Group, the Clúster de Materials Avançats de Catalunya (Clúster MAV) and the Light Mobility Cluster.
CASFEM combines magnetic resonance energy transfer with large format additive manufacturing (LFAM). The charging system is structurally integrated into both the vessel and the charging station through robotic 3D printing and the use of recyclable composite materials, which contributes to reducing weight, maintenance and environmental footprint. The project contemplates the design, prototyping and integration of the system, as well as its validation in real conditions of nautical use.
With a duration of 15 months, the development, integration and validation activities will be carried out in Catalonia, including tests in real port and maritime environments.
The lack of adequate charging infrastructure is one of the main barriers to the adoption of electric marine mobility. CASFEM offers a safe, efficient and sustainable alternative that facilitates recharging in environments exposed to moisture, salinity and vibrations, and opens new opportunities for small ports, protected areas and rental services. In addition, it contributes to positioning Catalonia as a European benchmark in marine inductive charging, nautical electrification and sustainable additive manufacturing.
With this initiative, collaborative innovation is strengthened and progress is made towards a cleaner and more efficient maritime mobility model, consolidating the commitment to the energy transition and sustainability in the naval sector.
The CASFEM project has a grant from ACCIÓ as part of the call for "cooperative cluster projects".
In Clúster MAV we work hard to offer a differentiated value proposition to our partners in accordance with our values: commitment, excellence, collaboration, involvement, quality and trust.
